This wonder of Pallassana could be as old as the Taj Mahal

The most beautiful of all monuments to love, the Taj Mahal, is believed to have been built in the early part of the 17th century. There are many passionate Pallavur citizens who believe that their Nattumaram, a remarkably expressive ‘Poovath’ tree, is probably as old as that.

Pallavureans take their percussion and performing arts very seriously, and the premises of this Nattumaram have echoed the beats of many practise sessions of Kanyarkali and Melam taken place right beneath, and actual shows of Kathakali and Thullal at the main arena nearby.

Musician and folklorist Sri. Vasu and a group of friends recount the many, many stories of this amazing Nattumaram (that in fact may be two trees in one). Hear about it.
